Meeting natives like Junior and Thyan. There was a young lady that was in charge of “Drinks on Wheels” She would yell out “drinks on the wheel” when she was working. The first time she yelled it out Mom was like “What happened to the other wheel?” All the people in Sandals were delightful and super friendly. Thyan was in charge of entertainment so he was everywhere. He had the perfect DJ/radio voice. Mike beat him in pool a couple of times and he just kept coming back for more. We all became well acquainted by the end of our trip.
How do I even begin to explain to you how absolutely awesome and fabulous this family vacation was for all of us. In total, six of us went on this vacation, Mom and Dad, Misha and Mike, and of course me and Curtis. When we landed in St. Lucia we had to go through customs and there was a long line. I am a foreigner so I’m used to it. The line was so long that by the time we got to the front Mom and Dad’s airplane had landed and they were already at the end of the line. The airplane ride was alright. Curtis and I didn’t have seats next to each other but we were in the same row. The couple that sat in between us seemed nice and everything was cool until the husband started coughing out his lungs. He was coughing and not really covering his mouth AND when his nose was running, he would wipe it with his hands. How gross was that???? So Curtis and I were annoyed with them. Then, as we are waiting in line there was this couple that clearly did not know the concept of “personal space”. If we even moved up a half an inch, they would scoot up. Has that ever happened to you? The guy bumped into me 3 times. Curtis got so frustrated that he would purposely not move up until there was a long space in front of us and the guy would pace because he was so nervous. It was so annoying I just wanted to turn around and yell “BACK UP!!!!”
So after we went through customs and met up with Mom and Dad, we registered with the Sandals counter and got on the shuttle to our resort. It was about an hour and a half from the airport to the resort but it flew by because of the beautiful scenery.
When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted by the staff and checked in. They are super friendly and always have a drink on hand.
We then headed to our rooms and agreed to meet back for dinner.
We decided to go to the buffet and have dinner. My favorite was the potato salad and the red snapper. We had live music. The man singing loved Elvis songs and he made every song sound the same. He just had that kind of voice (Barry Whitish). It was nice.
Afterwards, Curtis and Curtis went to play pool and mom and I sat down and chatted. We had drinks and enjoyed the live band that was entertaining everyone in the lobby area. The men joined us after a while and because we had traveled all day and ate…you know the rest “bedtime for Bonzo”, like Curtis and Curtis would say.
There are 3 other Sandals resorts on the island and we could eat dinner at any of the three, so the second night we went to one of the other resort and ate at Le Piton. The food was good but there were cats everywhere. As we were waiting for the shuttle back to our resort, we stopped by a small jewelry shop and met a nice young woman named “Kerlene”
The next day Misha and Mike arrived and we established the routine of the week:
Guys Work-Out Session – 8:30 am (happened twice!)
Breakfast – 9:30/10ish for the late sleepers (Ena!)
Pool /Drinks– 10:30 am – 12:00ish
Lunch – 12:00ish – 1:15 pm
Activities – 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm (*Snorkeling, water skiing, jet skiing, sunset cruise, etc)
Shutting the Bar Down – 3:30 pm -4:30 pm
Nap Time/ Getting Ready for Dinner – 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm
The remainder of the day we would have dinner, go play pool, enjoy live music, dance, etc.
We had a ball!
Memorable Moments
Curtis won a poetry contest. All the men by the bar had to write a poem in two minutes about their wives and Curtis was the funniest one. He began his poem with the line from Fresh Prince of Bel Air when Jeffrey was pretending to be a poet called “Raphael De La Ghetto” ~Cannons to the left of them! Cannons to the right of them.~

Misha telling me about my homey pedicure. This is so funny. There was a moment that Misha and I had to ourselves towards the end of the trip. We were just sitting down and talking about small stuff. Misha looks down at her feet and says “Wow, my pedicure really held up” I looked at my feet and said “Not mine” She continued by asking me “They don’t have Asian nail shops in Arkansas?” and I said “I did them myself” We both laughed so hard. I think we laughed for a minute straight.
We met three couples that were from somewhere. I can’t even remember. I’m sure Dad will. Poor Dad, these people followed us everywhere and Dad was usually the person they started talking to. He’s such a people person. I think people can sense his inviting spirit. (I won’t put up their pictures but yes, I have pictures of them)
I think snorkeling was a great experience for those that actually got in the water (Mom, Dad & Curtis). I got sick but the scenery was amazing.
When I look back at our trip I think we’ll remember how much we laughed and how much we enjoyed each other’s company. We all really relaxed. We shared stories and ate great food. This family vacation will definitely not be the last.
